This week was a very busy one! We have been focusing on the life cycle of caterpillars in preparation for our outing to the park next week, where we will be collecting caterpillars for our classroom. The students have also been hard at work learning how to do double digit addition and subtraction. I have been so impressed with how quickly they are catching on! Please make sure your child returns their "Friday" folder no later than Wednesday. "Homework" folders need to be returned by Thursday with the completed assignment inside.
If your child has not turned their Field Trip Permission Slip in yet, you can print another one off here.
Getting your child ready for school each day can be quite challenging. Here are some ideas to help start each day right.
1. Have your children help you lay out the next day’s clothes and prepare lunches the night before. Make sure to check the weather report to avoid a last minute rush for a coat or sweatshirt.
2. Wake children early enough to ensure they have plenty of time to eat breakfast and freshen up. Giving a child a set bedtime will ensure they get enough sleep. Don't forget to set the alarm!
3. Prepare a health and nutritious breakfast. Children are less irritable and much more alert when they eat a well-balanced meal.
4. Engage your child in conversation before they walk out the door or while taking them to school. Kids are often anxious over tests, friendships, or bullying. This gives parents a chance to communicate with their children about what is happening in their lives. http://www.ehow.com/how_8492873_start-school-day-morning.html 10 Questions to Ask your Child About Their Day at School When you ask your child about their day, are your questions usually met with one word answers? Here are ten open ended questions that will help start a conversation with your child.
Tell me about the best part of your day.
What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
Did any of your classmates do anything funny?
Tell me about what you read in class.
Who did you play with today? What did you play?
Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard?
What's the biggest difference between this year and last year?
What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair?
Who did you sit with at lunch?
Can you show me something you learned (or did) today?
